Sometimes
All it takes
Is one comment
To validate someone’s experiences
And make them feel heard
But unfortunately
The reverse is also true
A single remark
Can leave a lasting scar
A knife
That cuts so deeply
It reaches the root
You have to pull out the knife
Ever so gently
So as not to cause irreversible damage
Accepting that pain is natural
And bloodshed is imminent
Not to feel ashamed
Of your vulnerable position
And hiding it away
Because even though nobody may see it
It doesn’t just disappear on its own
It’s okay to ask for help
Afterall
It’s important to remove the blood
And disinfect the wound
With time, the scar will fade
Perhaps it will always be there
But that’s okay
It’s a reminder of your strength
Surviving something that could have been your demise
