What does voting for the lesser of two evils really say about the state of our country? Have we lowered our standards so much so that we are willing to vote a sexual predator into office just so we can prevent the other sexual predator from retaining his power?

If “not Trump” is a sufficient threshold for a potential future President of the United States, do we really care about our nation? Frankly, I think not.

But what are we to do, time and time again, when we’re forced to choose between two people who are not fit to be leaders? What are we to do when following our conscience and refusing to vote for either only guarantees another four years of madness with a crazy psychopath?

The general election is months away, and yet my mind already strays to an inevitably dark time. I know I will, against my better judgement, vote for Biden.

People will say, yet again, that now’s not the time to vote for a third party candidate. Despite the obvious flaws associated with a two party system, our country continuously falls into the same trap. When will be the right time to change the system?

The next election cycle will roll around and we will be forced to vote for the lesser of two evils again. But, what if I don’t want to vote for evil? What if I want my leader to be good? Is that really too much to ask for? I would take neutral if that were an option. At this point, a neutral candidate would be a blessing because we are clearly not ready for anyone genuinely good.

It’s easy to discount Tara Reade’s story automatically rather than accept the fact that our nation is pathetic and offers no viable alternative for the future POTUS. It’s easy to call her a liar, just as we’ve called other women liars in the past. But is this really the sort of nation we aspire to be? One that pretends the past never happened so that we can feel good about ourselves? One that doesn’t take accountability for our actions?

Surely I do not feel “Proud to be an American.”
